SENSOR OLYMPICS XXIX honors AF ISR Agency's enlisted Airmen

11/10/2008 - LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- Sixty-nine of the Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Agency's best and brightest enlisted Airmen were awarded SENSOR OLYMPICS XXIX gold, silver and bronze medals during an awards banquet at the Gateway Club on Nov. 6.
"SENSOR OLYMPICS is an outstanding way to recognize AF ISR Agency enlisted Airmen and the enormous contributions they make to the success of our mission," said Master Sgt. Rafael Rodriquez, AF ISR Agency SENSOR OLYMPICS Superintendent. "Those competing are the best in their career fields, and whether they won gold, silver or bronze, I couldn't be more proud of each of them."
The program, originally called COMFY OLYMPICS, was created in 1979 by Maj. Gen. Doyle E. Larson, former Electronic Security Command commander. While the program's name has changed over the years to reflect mission and organizational changes, the selection process has remained the same.
Three finalists in each of 23 AF ISR Agency specialties were initially selected from a group of more than 6,000 Airmen who completed comprehensive exams written by subject matter experts. These finalists visited the AF ISR Agency headquarters, met with leadership and received informative tours and briefings before competing.
"The SENSOR OLYMPIANS sitting here tonight represent the hallmark not only of AF ISR Agency Airmen but of all Airmen in the U.S. Air Force.," said Maj. Gen. Craig Koziol, AF ISR Agency commander and awards banquet guest speaker. "In locations across the globe, you are doing incredible things to save lives and accomplish the missions of component commanders, combatant commanders and the commander in chief.
"From signals specialists and linguists to communications technicians and electronics specialists, these Airmen make tremendous contributions within every aspect of this agency," he said. "You are just as important to winning the fight as the operators in platforms and the Soldiers with boots on the ground. You are all professional, focused and well-trained leaders and I am proud to honor you tonight."
