10/8/2008 - LACKLAND AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- The Air Force ISR Agency selected three finalists in each of the 23 competing career fields who will visit Lackland AFB Nov. 4-7 to go for gold in SENSOR OLYMPICS XXIX.

"The enthusiastic efforts and outstanding scores of all the competitors are evidence of the highly skilled and knowledgeable cadre of professionals we have in the Air Force ISR Agency," said Ken Williams, Air Force ISR Agency, director of staff. "Their acceptance of the challenge to compete allows us to recognize the 'Best of the Best' Technicians."

The program, originally called COMFY OLYMPICS, began in 1979 by Maj. Gen. Doyle Larson, former Electronic Security Command commander. While the program's name has changed over the years to reflect mission and organizational changes, the selection process has remained the same.

The finalists were selected from a group of more than 8,000 Airmen who completed comprehensive exams written by subject matter experts from each career field. Each of the finalists will have the opportunity to visit the headquarters to meet with leadership and receive informative tours and briefings.

"This is a huge accomplishment for all the SENSOR OLYMPICS medalists," said Master Sgt. Rafael Rodriguez, AF ISR Agency SENSOR OLYMPICS counsel. "They are the best of the best in their career fields, so we want to show them how their hard work plays a critical role in the Air Force ISR Agency mission. By meeting with AF ISR Agency leadership and attending briefings and tours, the Airmen get to see the big picture, which is not always seen at squadron level."

The medalists will be named gold, silver or bronze winners during the Annual SENSOR OLYMPICS Award Banquet held Nov. 6 at the Gateway Club at Lackland.
