Mission
The 480th Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance Wing, headquartered at Joint Base Langley-Eustis Virginia is the Air Force lead for delivering timely and relevant ISR from a variety of platforms, 24 hour a day, year round in direct support of combat operations, Air Force leaders, key Coalition partners and combatant commanders worldwide. Capabilities within the Wing include global command and control for the collection and processing, exploitation, and dissemination of ISR data from the U-2 Dragon Lady, RQ-4 Global Hawk, MQ-1 Predator, MQ-9 Reaper and MC-12 Liberty, in addition to numerous other ISR platforms, utilizing the Air Force Distributed Common Ground System weapon system. Additionally, the Wing conducts real-time cryptologic and signals intelligence operations in direct support of combat operations and combatant commanders worldwide. The 480th also prides itself as the organization of choice for providing ISR operators to deployed sites conducting combat ISR combat operations.

History
The 480th ISR Wing has a remarkable history dating to 1943 when it was formed as the 480th Antisubmarine Group. The 480th Antisubmarine Group was famous for its operational prowess and ties to the integration of key intelligence used from cracked Enigma Code machines in the Allied effort to stop the surge of U-Boats in the Mediterranean during World War II. In 1951, it became the 480th Special Operations Wing, and was later deactivated in 1953. The Wing was re-designated the 480th Intelligence Wing and reactivated Dec. 1, 2003. The Wing was officially renamed the 480th ISR Wing Jan. 1, 2009. For the past 40 years the Wing - in one form or another - has been actively deployed around the world to support time-sensitive ISR operations.

Organization
Presently, the Wing is organized into six ISR Groups with more than 5,000 warrior Airmen and is the largest ISR Wing in the Air Force. The six subordinate ISR Groups are: the 480th ISR Group, 497th ISR Group, 548th ISR Group, 692nd ISR Group, 693rd ISR Group and the 694th ISR Group. In addition, the Wing has twenty Air Force Reserve and Air National Guard units standing side-by-side with the active duty component as it engages in ISR operations around the globe: 117th IS, Alaska, 123rd IS, Ariz., 50th IS, 222nd IS and 234th IS, Calif., 139th IS, Ga, 201st IS, Hawaii, 137th IS and 181st OSS, Ind., 161st IS, 184th ISS and 184th OSS, Kansas, 101st IS and 102nd OSS, Mass., 152nd IS, Nev., 160th IS, Utah, and 192nd IS and 718th IS, Va.

The 480th ISR Group, headquartered at Fort Gordon, Ga., conducts real-time tactical and national intelligence collection, exploitation, analysis and reporting operations. The Group provides cryptologic products and services to war fighters and decision makers operating in, or concerned with, the CENTCOM, EUCOM, AFRICOM and SOCOM areas of responsibility. The Group also conducts Air Force National Tactical Integration and Tactics Analysis Studies Element missions for the 609th Air and Space Operations Center and is the Air Force component of the National Security Agency-Central Security Service-Georgia. The Group consists of the 3rd IS, the 31st IS, both located at Fort Gordon, Georgia and Detachment 1, 31st IS, Shaw AFB, South Carolina (supports 609th Air Operations Center).

The 497th ISR Group, headquartered at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va., delivers real-time high-confidence intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance products and services to Joint and Coalition forces and other designated government agencies. The Group consists of four active duty Squadrons, the 30th IS, the 10th IS, the 45th IS, and the 497th OSS, one Air National Guard unit, the 192nd IS (Virginia ANG), and a new classic Air Reserve unit, the 718th IS, stood up to support the total force integration of the Wing and combat ISR operations.

The 548th ISR Group, headquartered at Beale AFB, Calif., delivers real-time high-confidence intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance products and services to Joint and Coalition forces and other designated government agencies. The Group also processes, exploits and disseminates broad area, synoptic, high-resolution imagery collected by the U-2 Optical Bar Camera for combatant commanders and war fighting forces worldwide. The Group consists of four active duty Squadrons, one detachment, five Air National Guard Squadrons and one Air Force Reserve Squadron: the 9th IS, 13th IS, 48th IS and 548th OSS, Detachment 1, 548th ISR Group, Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz. (supports 612th AOC), 222nd ISS (California ANG), 222nd OSS (California ANG), 234th IS (California ANG) and the 50th IS (USAF Reserve) are all located at Beale AFB, Calif., and the 152nd IS (Nevada ANG), 123rd IS (Ark. ANG).

The 692nd ISR Group, headquartered at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii, processes, exploits and disseminates ISR data collected by U-2, Predator, and Global Hawk aircraft. The Group also is the Air Force component of the National Security Agency-Central Security Service-Hawaii and provides AF National Tactical Integration to 613th Air and Space Operations Center. The Group consists of three active duty squadrons, the 8th IS, the 324th IS and the 792nd Intelligence Support Squadron, and one Air National Guard Squadron, the 201st IS (Hawaii ANG).

The 693rd ISR Group, headquartered at Ramstein AB, Germany, conducts multi-intelligence airborne ISR operations for the European, African and Central Command areas of responsibility. The Group also conducts Air Force National Tactical Integration and Tactics Analysis Studies Element missions for the 603rd Air and Space Operations Center and operates EAGLE VISION One, a deployable commercial satellite imagery ground station. The Group consists of five Squadrons: the 450th IS, the 24th IS, the 402nd IS and 693rd ISS, all located at Ramstein AB, Germany, and the 485th IS at Mainz-Kastel, Germany, which also has four Operating Locations.

The 694th ISR Group, headquartered at Osan Air Base, Republic of Korea, processes, exploits and disseminates intelligence data from reconnaissance aircraft, conducting ISR operations during armistice, crisis and wartime to meet Component, Combatant Commander and national requirements. The Group also conducts Air Force National Tactical Integration, Tactics Analysis Studies Element and real-time threat warning missions for the 607th Air and Space Operations Center and conducts reporting of intelligence through global networks serving the intelligence community. The Group consists of the 6th IS, the 303rd IS, which has two Operating Locations, and the 694th ISS, all located at Osan Air Base.
